Dolly Parton Was Surprised By Beyoncé’s Reworking Of “Jolene”

Dolly Parton was aware ahead of time that Beyoncé was planning on covering her 1973 country anthem, “Jolene,” on her new album, Cowboy Carter. But during a new interview with E! News, Parton revealed that was surprised how Beyoncé modernized her classic song while putting her own unique twist on the lyrics. Parton loves the results, and applauds Beyoncé for her creativity and confidence. “Well, I think it was very bold of her,” Parton said of Beyoncé’s changes to her song. “When they said she was gonna do ‘Jolene,’ I expected it to be my regular one, but it wasn’t. But I love what she did to it. She wasn’t gonna go beg some other woman like I did. ‘Don’t steal my man.’ Sh*t, get out of here, b*tch. You ain’t stealin’ mine.” (People)
