Netflix Wants 9-Hour Documentary About Prince Reduced To 6 Hours

It makes perfect sense that there is a documentary on Prince in the works. He is one of the greatest, most original artists in the history of music. But to Netflix and Prince’s estate, it doesn’t quite need to be nine hours long. Filmmaker Ezra Edelman, who made 2016’s Oscar-winning O.J.: Made in America, stepped in as director when Ava DuVernay walked away from the project. And according to Puck, Edelman finished his cut of the film “a while back.” “It’s unclear what exactly peeves them,” Puck reports, “but one source insists it’s not revelations of drug use or sexual stuff. Instead, the estate argues there are things in the film that are inaccurate.” Apparently, the current cut of the documentary is allegedly nine hours long, and Netflix has requested that it be edited down to six hours. Until a compromise is made, the film is apparently being “held hostage.” (Uproxx)
