Dear John's Channing Tatum on Finding "The One"
In his new movie Dear John, hunky model-turned-actor Channing Tatum is a — wait for it — heartbreaker! He plays a soldier who falls for a beautiful college girl (Amanda Seyfried) and jeopardizes their romance when he reenlists after 9/11. In real life, the 29-year-old Stop-Loss star has already found Ms. Right — he married his Step Up costar Jenna Dewan last July. The chiseled Channing talks about romance on and off the screen.Q: How do you describe Dear John?
Channing: It’s about that first love. Remember the first person you were in love with? You can’t get it right, because you have no idea how to be in a relationship.
Q: How did you get along with your costar Amanda?
Channing: She’s a riot. I don’t know how we got any work done. It was a lot of looking up Abba videos on YouTube and clowning around.
Q: You just got married. How did you know Jenna was the one?
Channing: I know because she makes me a better person. I want to challenge myself to make her happier.
Q: Any relationship advice?
Channing: If you need advice, you’re probably starting off in a bad place! I just pay attention to her. Weirdly, I’ll know before she gets up if she’s going to be in a good mood or if she had a good or bad dream.
Q: Was it love at first sight?
Channing: We knew something. I had just gotten out of a three-year relationship, and I was not in any way, shape or form ready to get into another one. Five years later, we’re married!
